"An AV Rating shows that a lawyer has reached the height of professional excellence. He or she has usually practiced law for many years, and is recognized for the highest levels of skill and integrity. " - Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory
The first Martindale books were published in 1868, the principal one being Martindale's United States Law Directory and later Martindale's American Law Dictionary. In 1930, the publishing rights to Hubbell's Legal Directory were purchased by the Martindale Company and ever since the directory has been known as the Martindale-Hubbellİ Law Directory.
Each Martindale-Hubbell Rating has two components:
- Legal Ability Ratings
- General Ethical Standards Rating
Legal Ability and General Ethical Standards Ratings have appeared in the Directory for over 100 years, with a company imperative to publish fair and accurate ratings for as many lawyers as possible. While the vast majority of rating reviews are initiated by the company, an inquiry will be undertaken upon request. Lawyers, both private and corporate, refer to ratings when forwarding legal matters with confidence in the accuracy of the information presented.
