Shannon McLin Carlyle

Shannon McLin Carlyle is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in appellate practice and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. She is also a Board Certified Appellate Court Mediator. She is an experienced appellate advocate with an extensive background in state and federal appellate representation. As a former law clerk to the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeal, Ms. Carlyle developed a unique perspective as to what appellate courts expect in appellate briefs and pleadings. Ms. Carlyle is admitted to practice in Florida state and federal courts, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Ms. Carlyle earned her Juris Doctorate with honors from Pepperdine University School of Law where she was Associate Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review. She also earned her B.A. in journalism with honors from the University of Central Florida.

Ms. Carlyle has lectured and written on issues important to appellate courts and practitioners. Recent
writings include:
Ms. Carlyle is a member of The Florida Bar, and since 1993 has been a Charter Member of the Appellate Practice Section, where she serves on the Executive Council, and is a former section delegate to the Council of Sections. She currently chairs the section's Outreach Committee. She is also active in the Family Law
Section where she serves as co-chairman of the Section's Amicus Committee. Ms. Carlyle also serves on the Fifth District Court of Appeal's Mediation Task Force.
Ms. Carlyle also serves as an ad hoc member of the Appellate Court Rules Committee, and is a member of the American Bar
Association's Council of Appellate Lawyers. Ms. Carlyle is also a member of the Academy of Florida Trial
Lawyers, where she has served on the Amicus Curiae Committee, which works with the Academy in drafting
and filing amicus briefs on the Academy's behalf.
In addition to her state and national bar activities, Ms. Carlyle is a member of the Lake County Bar
Association and the Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers.
A life-long resident of Lake County, Ms. Carlyle has been active in the community. She has served as
Vice President of Habitat for Humanity of Lake County, Inc., as well as on the organization's Board of
Directors. She was also a member of Leadership Lake County and served as President of the Class of 2001.
She has raised funds for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and has participated in their walk in New York City in 2005.

Christopher V. Carlyle

Christopher V. Carlyle is Board Certified by The Florida Bar
in appellate practice and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. He has an extensive background in appellate as well as commercial
litigation. Prior to joining The Carlyle Appellate Law Firm, he practiced a wide range
of commercial litigation with Holland & Knight, LLP and McLin & Burnsed, P.A. Mr. Carlyle
is admitted to practice in Florida state and federal courts, the U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Carlyle graduated cum laude from the Pepperdine University School of Law, where he was
associate editor of the Pepperdine Law Review. Mr. Carlyle was selected to the Dean's List each of
his three years in law school. His published works include:

Mr. Carlyle is a member of The Florida Bar, and is active in the Bar's Appellate Practice Section.
He currently serves on the Appellate Practice Section's Leadership Committee as well as the Publications
Committee.
In addition to his state and national bar activities, Mr. Carlyle is a member of the Lake County Bar
Association, and has an extensive background in community service. His present positions include:

Gil S. Goshorn, Jr.

Gilbert S. Goshorn, Jr. served as a Judge of Florida's Fifth District Court of Appeal
for ten years, and was Chief Judge of that court from 1991 to 1993. Prior to his service
as an appellate judge, Mr. Goshorn was a Judge with the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit,
and was Chief Judge of that court during his tenure. He was nominated for appointment
to the Florida Supreme Court in 1993. From 1988 to 1999, Mr. Goshorn was a member of
the Judicial Qualification Commission, which hears and provides oversight of complaints
about state judges, and was the Chair of that body in 1997-98. He is AV rated by
Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Goshorn received his law degree from the University of Florida, where he was
elected to the University of Florida Hall of Fame, as well as the Florida Blue Key,
an honorary leadership fraternity. He has over forty years of experience in Florida law.

Mr. Goshorn is active in business and public service. He formerly served on the Board of
Directors of the American Cancer Society, Brevard County, and is a member of the Masonic
Indian River Lodge #90, the Azan Shrine Temple, the Orlando Scottish Rite Bodies,
and the Elks Lodge No. 2113. He has also served on various boards of directors for Florida banks.
Mr. Goshorn has contributed to the economic growth of Florida and the local community. He is a
past two-time President of the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce, and was elected as a Member
of the Canaveral Port Authority (1978) and became Vice Chairman of the Authority in 1980. He is
one of the original organizers and the Chair of the Brevard Economic Development Commission,
and was an original organizer and board member of the Brevard Guidance Center.

Roy B. "Skip" Dalton

Skip Dalton is an AV rated lawyer who has practiced law in Florida for over 25 years.
He earned his undergraduate degree with high honors and his law degree from the
University of Florida, and is admitted to practice before all of the state courts
in Florida as well as the U.S. District Courts, in the Northern, Middle and
Southern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals, for the Fifth and
Eleventh Circuits, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the United States Supreme Court.

Earle W. Peterson, Jr.

The Carlyle Appellate Law Firm welcomes former Chief Judge of Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal,
Earle W. Peterson, Jr., to the Firm. In addition to handling appellate litigation matters within The Carlyle Appellate Law Firm,
Peterson and colleague, Gil Goshorn, will be available to assist other appellate lawyers throughout Florida by conducting mock
oral arguments in significant cases and providing appellate consultation and strategic evaluations to outside appellate counsel
and their clients.

Peterson earned his undergraduate degree from Florida State University in 1957, as well as a commission in the
US Army Reserve. After fulfilling his active duty requirement, he practiced as a certified pubic accountant until 1962 when he
attended the University of Florida College of Law where he obtained his J.D. with high honors and graduating first in his class.
He was also inducted into the legal honor societies, Phi Kappa Phi and Order of the Coif. During law school he served as editor in
chief of the symposium issue of the Law Review and published Criminal Law: Plea of Nolo Contendere to an Indictment for First Degree Murder,
16 E. Fla. L. Rev. 497 (1963) and Florida Procedures in Satisfying or Avoiding a Money Judgment, 17 U. Fla. L. Rev. 269 (1964).
After graduation, Peterson became a partner with McCune Hiaasen, Crum, Ferris and Gardener in Fort Lauderdale, but moved to
Lake County in 1979 where he engaged in private practice until he was appointed to the Circuit Court bench in 1988. Two years’
later, he was appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeal where he served with distinction until his retirement in December,
2005. He was Chief Judge of the Fifth District from 1995 to 1997.
Peterson has also been active in his community throughout his judicial career. In 2005, he was instrumental in the
formulation of the Lake-Sumter Inns of Court. As an avid Paso Fino owner, Peterson is a member of the Paso Fino Horse Association,
and has traveled with his horse, Carlota la M “Carly”, throughout the country participating in parades and other
events. During one of the most memorable retirement party’s in the Fifth District Court of Appeal’s history,
Carly carried Peterson (who was donned with tuxedo, hat and bolero) through the Court’s parking garage and bowed elegantly
following the judge’s farewell remarks
